In this exceptional location, 32 ha. of a unique landscape framed by the Andes in Luján de Cuyo – first Viticultural Zone only one in the world with DO for MalbecFamilia Otero Ramos planted outstanding stocks of Malbec, Cabernet Sauvignon, Tannat, Pinot Noir, Petit Verdot, Chardonnay, Torrontés and Sauvignon Blanc a 32 haover 900 mt asl. Some years later 60 ha. in Valle de Uco at 1100 mt asl were acquired.

The necessary infrastructure was built and the selected stocks were planted and supplied with drip irrigation that uses snowmelt water from the mountain.

The labour in the vineyards is manual: debudding, green harvest during veraison and green harvest to sort clusters.

Familia Otero Ramos vineyards are irrigated with snowmelt water from the Andes, which are stored in our 8m-liters capacity reservoir that also refreshes and embellishes the view.

The vineyard’s layout allows a meticulous and manual handling of the stocks. Wine is conceived in the land and once the bunches are ripe and have reached their peak condition, they are carefully harvested and taken into the winery in boxes, thus obtaining top quality raw material to make top quality wines.

Familia Otero Ramos winery is designed and built in a Spanish style, a traditional characteristic construction of late XIX, beginning of XX century wineries. There is an underground cellar for oak and bottle storage. The current winery capacity is 1.5 million lts. Familia Otero Ramos winemaking process involves high-tech equipment and the most careful and traditional oenological practices.

Experience and well equipped facilities also allow Familia Otero Ramos to make sparkling wine base and top quality wines for export for renowned wineries.

Familia Otero Ramos Winery relies on two oenologists and the prestigious International Flying winemaker, Mr. Sergio Correa Undurraga, who works together with Don Manuel Otero Ramos in the winemaking activity.

LODGE

In the near future, Familia Otero Ramos plans to build an exclusive lodge for exquisite first-class tourists who wish to spend a lovely stay in Mendoza, surrounded by the beauty of our vineyards, gardens and pond, framed by the Andes Mountain Range, to relax and enjoy our entrepreneurship and wines.

Familia Otero Ramos grows as an environmentally friendly establishment that enforces sustainable practices and technology.:

*Traceability program: Traceability is the ability to reconstruct a product’s process and know its immediate destination. By filing thorough reports, a food production establishment can track and know each product’s history as well as locate them quick and efficiently without mistakes, through all production and distribution steps. This translates into a huge benefit for consumers.

*Good Agricultural Practices: These are practices oriented towards the fulfilment of regulations under four vital elements: environmental sustainability by enhancing the use of natural resources and a healthy work environment, social acceptability, economic viability, and good quality and innocuous food products.

*Good Manufacturing Practice Program (GMP): GMP are implemented in food production and handling. It’s a vital practice to obtain innocuous products. GMP constitutes a number of basic principles that guarantee that these food products are made under adequate sanitary conditions, and reduce risks involved in their production and distribution.

*Green Channel at INV (National Viticulture Institute): Within INV’s “Plan for Risk Control”, few are the establishments that meet and surpass the standards to be classified among “green channel” wineries. “Green Channel” means the winery: follows high quality control standards, makes genuine and innocuous products, shows clean records, enforces safe and aseptic measures and has a reliable traceability system.

*“Clean Production” Program: This program guarantees that the Winery takes the commitment to implement and enforce environmentally friendly practices, responsible water use, and energy saving technologies. Our winery is one of the pioneers in developing sustainable oenological practices based on technological innovation. Familia Otero Ramos goal is to eventually focus on techniques to make sustainable still and sparkling wines. For this the winery is currently implementing a system that includes a residual water treatment plant for irrigation and optimal water use according to regulations of the Irrigation General Department.
